Anandpur Sahib is one of the Holy cities in Punjab. It is considered to very sacred city and is linked with history and relegious traditions of Sikhs.

Anandpur Sahib is one of the Holy cities in Punjab. It is considered to very sacred city and is linked with history and relegious traditions of Sikhs. Apart from this Anandpur Sahib is a beautiful and calm city with picturesque surroundings of lush green trees and farms. River Sutlej flows at the border of the city just 4 miles away.

History of Anandpur Sahib


The city Anandpur Sahib was founded by the 9th Guru, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji in the year 1664. It is near the ancient place Makhowal which is in the form of ruins now. The City of Anandpur Sahib is second to the holy city Amritsar as far as historical significance is concerned.

Takht Sahib


Takht Sahib proper is in the form of square hall, it has a balcony on the front side that overlooks the spacious court yard. There are some old weapons kept preserved as sacred relics in the inner domed room. The holy Sarovar is on the west side of the Takht Sahib. There is also a large and spacious pavillion.

Holla Mohalla in Anandpur Sahib


Holla Mohalla is celebrated in the month of March every year and this small and calm town is full of activities. The tradition of Holla Mohalla is very old. It was started by the 10th Guru Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji. The Guru decided to celebrate Holi in a different manner. He made it the occassion for the display of martial spirit. Guru also gave Holi a masculine name of Holla Mohalla.

During Holla Mohalla in Anandpur Sahib thousands of people come and visit Anandpur Sahib

How to Reach Anandpur Sahib


Anandpur Sahib is very well connected via rail and road. It is around 80 Kms from Chandigarh, around 95 Kms from Ludhiana. From Delhi, Anadpur Sahib is around 300 Kms.
