Gurudwara Dukh Nivaran is a magnificent shrine of Sikhs built on the spot consecrated by ninth Sikh Guru Sri Tegh Bahadurji. There is a vast 'sarovar'( pond) in the Gurudwara, whose water is believed to possess holy qualities.
Gurudwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib
Patiala is known as the 'Shahi city' or 'Prince City' and it rightly justifies this metaphor due to some of its shahi
landmarks in Patiala
like
Gurudwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib
, Sheesh Mahal, Moti Bagh, Deer Park, etc. This is the land of Kings. Gurudwara Dukh Nivaran is a magnificent shrine of Sikhs built on the spot consecrated by ninth Sikh Guru Sri Tegh Bahadurji. There is a vast 'sarovar'(pond) in the Gurudwara, whose water is believed to possess holy qualities.
The
location of Gurudwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib
is very good. Gurudwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib is situated on the land which used to be the village of Lehal once upon a time. Now it is a part of the city itself. As per the history, a resident of the Lehal village named Bhag Ram requested Guru Teg Bahadur to visit his village and bless the people who were suffering from a serious and mysterious disease. At that time Guru Teg Bahadur was on his sojourn at the village of Safiabad which is now known as Bahadurgarh. The Guru visited the Lehal village on Bagh Ram's request and sat under a tree near the pond. By Guru's blessings, villagers got rid of the disease. Since then, the place came to be known as Dukh Nivaran (eradicator of suffering) and the pond where Guruji sat came to be known for its healing qualities.
The building complex of the Gurudwara is spread over several acres. All the building is embedded with the black and white marble floor. This is a two storey building. There is a small memorial made with the marble on the left side of the pathway leading to main building of the Gurudwara where Guru Teg Bahadur had sat during his visit to the village under the Banyan tree.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is responsible to manage the Gurudwara. 'Langar' (free food to everybody) is daily run in the Gurudwara by the cooperation of people and donators. There is a huge crowd of devotees on Basant Panchmi in the Gurudwara, as this was the day when Guru Teg Bahadur had visited the village.
