Hari-ke-pattan is a distinguished Sanctuary in Punjab of wetlands and bird reserves. It was created in the year 1953 and was declared a National Bird Sanctuary in 1982. The tranquillizing lush green reserve, Hari-ke-pattan is located near Amritsar, and is also easily accessible from cities like Kapurthala and Ferozepur, thus Hari-ke-pattan is also a favourite spot for not only outbound tourists but also for the locals.
Hari-ke-pattan Wildlife Sanctuary is also surrounded by dazzling, sylvan lake that glitters like an illusion of quicksilver in the bright sunlight. Sylvan lake in the Sanctuary is probably the most noteworthy water body of Punjab and it is host for the arrival of over 350 spectacular species of foreign migratory birds who fly from as far as Siberia during the chilly winters.
The rare exotic birds in Harike Pattan include Darters, Cormorants, Herons, Open billed Stork, Egrets, Spoonbill and White Ibis, Indian Moorhen, Little Grebe, Black Winged Stilts. Also you can see few other endangered migratory ducks and sometimes Grey Pelicans. All these rare and endangered bird species are pride of this place. Hari-ke-pattan's market is one of the largest sweet water fish markets in India.
