Harimandir Sahib or Golden Temple


The famous and sacred Harmandir Sahib or Swarn Mandir or Golden Temple is located in Amritsar Punjab. There are four gates in the temple which are open for people of all castes and religions from all directions. Anothor important aspect of Harmandir Sahib is that the Langar or free kitchen is run 24 hrs and Prasad or holy food is seved 24 hrs to all the people irrespective of caste or religion.

The continous recitation of the divine word 24 hrs has a soothing and rejuvenating impact and it never stops in Harmandir Sahib Gurudwara. The great Golden Temple has a rich history. The part of land of Gurudwara was granted by Mughal Emperor Akbar. The foundation stone of Golden Temple was laid by a Muslim Sufi Saint, Mian Mir. The scripture read out in Harminder Sahib includes the heavenly message as received by bhagats saints and pirs of all faiths.


Harminder Sahib celebrates two festivals, Baisakhi and Diwali with great passion, delight and gusto. The jewels in the tosha khana (treasury) of the temple are displayed around the Sri Guru Granth Sahib during Vaisakhi

During Diwali festival the entire Harmandir Sahib temple is illuminated with traditional lamps of variety of colours. The reflection of the Golden temple in the sparkling water of the holy pool is a treat to watch. The site is really mesmerizing and spectacular. Fireworks are displayed by professionals

Taran Taran was founded by the 5th Prophet Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji. Taran Taran is just 24 km south of Amritsar. It is an exemplary peace of architecture with gold-plated dome. Taran Taran has a holy pool too. Guru Arjan Dev ji used to run a leper's home in Taran Taran

How to Reach Golden Temple Amritsar


Amritsar is 6 - 7 hrs drive from Delhi, 3-4 hrs drive from Chandigarh, well connected by express highway.
Amritsar is also well connected by Rail from all parts of the country, by express trains and Shatabdi Express from Delhi.
Amritsar is connected by air with flights from all the major cities of India.
