Early Life of Harbhajan Singh


Harbhajan Singh born in Jalandhar, Punjab on 3rd July, 1980. Harbhajan born to a Punjabi family and is the only son of Sardar Sardev Singh and have five sisters. He got support from his family to become a cricketer from his childhood. Harbhajan Singh has to take the responsibility of his family at very early age when his fatherdeath in year 2000. At that time he was struggling for his place in Indian Team.

Debut in International Cricket


With brilliant performances at Under-16 and Under-19 level, and some good performances in Ranji Trophy, he was given a chance in Tringular ODI tournament in year 1998, where India played with Zimbabwe and Australia, but was dropped for the finals due to average performance. And here he also made his Test Debut aginst Australia.

Initial Career of Harbhajan Singh


Dropped from the Next triangular series after his debut, he was again recalled for the tournament against New zealand and Sri Lanka, where his performance was brilliant and he took 8 wickets in 5 games. But after that his performance was not up to the mark and was not selected for the ODI team for couple of next years, but remain the member of the Test Team. In Cricket World Cup 1999, he was not selected in the team. Having Anil Kumble in the Test Team he didnt get chance to play in the Test matches, when India toured Australia.

When Anil Kumble was injured and was out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2001, Harbhajan played as frontline spinner and that Test series become a turning point of his career, as he took 32 wickets in 3 matches, making India to win a Historic series. It was his bowling that Ricky Ponting unabled to play a single good knock in whole series. It was this series when he invent a new weapon in his bowling Doosra. After that he become the part of the Test and both ODI Team, where he share spin attack with Anil Kumble in Test Matches and main spin bowler in ODI matches.

Harbhajan is an off-spinner and with this he is now the main bowler of Indian Cricket Team in all formats of the game. His performances in sub-continent is much better than his performance in other part of the world, so it was said that he can only take wickets on sub-continent slow wickets, but he proved himself as a better bowler with taking many Five-Wicket Hauls outside sub-continent pitches. He is now India's third highest wicket taking bowler in Test Matches with an impressive rate.
