Power cut in Punjab was a sustained problem all through like the rest of the country but in May 2011, the people of Punjab are going to be relieved from power cut. There will be no power cut in Punjab in the month of May this year. In the power schedule released by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited today, it has been stated that there will be no power cuts in Punjab in either domestic or industrial sectors.

The PSPCL May 2011 power schedule clearly mentioned that there will be "no scheduled power cuts on feeders feeding main cities, district headquarters, urban industrial category-1, UPS 3 wire, UPS 4 wire feeders and no weekly off for the industry". In fact it is the summer season and it is quite an achievement by the PSPCL that there is not going to be any power interruption this month in Punjab. The senior officials and staffs of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) have remarked that this incident is happening for the first time in many years when no power cut schedule will be imposed on the people of Punjab even in the summer season. The Chairman cum Managing Director of PSPCL, Mr. K. D. Chaudhari, has given the credits to the planned team works, visions and efforts to achieve those visions. Several thermal plants in Punjab has been renovated and repaired and this has caused a great boost in the gross production of power in Punjab. That is why it is being possible for the first time within a span of many years when Punjab will have no power cut during this time of the year.

Mr. Arun Verma, the Director of PSPCL (distribution), has remarked that there might still be some power cuts in some places. Nevertheless, if there are some power cuts in any place of Punjab, it will be due to any technical snag or maintenance works. There will be absolutely no scheduled power cut this month in Punjab.

Even in the recent times, the state had suffered from the power cut problems in Punjab. Recent figures show that on 28th April 2011 the total demand of power was 1,163 lakh units out of which PSPCL managed to supply only 1,146 lakh units. There was a shortage of 17 lakh units of power. Nevertheless, the shortage was overcome by imposing three hours' peak load restrictions on some large consumer companies. In fact in 2010, especially in the summer season, both the domestic and the industrial consumers faced huge problems and inconveniences due to prolonged power interruptions all over Punjab. However, in May 2011, it will not reoccur and the people of Punjab will definitely be happy!
